On a day to day basis I am in charge of delegating roles and responsibilities to my colleagues. Reviewing planners and managing performance and ensuring customer satisfaction. While ensuring the store remains safe and legal.
I’ve learnt how to manage my time more appropriately and how to prioritise workload for efficiently.
I enjoy learning new topics and skills, skills I believe will help me in the long run when running a store of my own. However I do find that I sometimes struggle with working full time along with this programme
I think the programme is very well structured. It’s simple to use the website which is where all the information is to answer your tutors questions and information for your end point assessment
My area manager has been very supportive regarding the programme and has even printed useful documents to help translate jargon into common Iceland phrases ect to help ensure I know how to appropriately awnser questions.
My training provider is very supportive, they frequently email/ visit to check how my progress is and if there is anything I am struggling with or would like to talk through.
I think this qualification helps me to see my role in a different view. Instead of just doing what the company have asked I now know the reasons behind why they have asked me to do this and how it affects the customer also
I attend area meetings where I learn about what’s been happening in the company and other stores. This is where store manager can also share their ways of working also. I will be attending the heart of Iceland event in March also which will give me an insight into head office and how they make decisions.
Yes
Iceland is a great place to work, it still has its morals and family values. Especially regarding the no palm oil incentive that launched a few years ago and the recent no plastic incentive which will see us going plasticless from 2023. The people also make Iceland an enjoyable place to work as we do treat each other as family
Try to be as flexible as you can regarding hours and days. Come in with a get ready to go attitude and ensure you maintain it. Sometimes it can feel like a thankless job but when everything goes right is definitely a place you want to work at. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty when you need too
