engineering apprentice, Planned, preventive, reactive maintenance, shadowing different technicians and engineers as I rotate around departments on site.
I have learnt a lot of new skills at college and I am no constantly improving my skills as I work at site. and I am improving the skills I had before starting the engineering apprentice course.
It is good because I am doing something that means something and I can see my improvements in a working environment. I am enjoying the fact that I am learning and working and I like the fact I can have real responsibilities that I have to work to.
The apprenticeship is tailored to suit our own individual needs and what interests we have. This makes us feel valued as individuals.
The first year was spent full time with a structured timetable at college, this was organised and easy to follow. For the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year we have a detailed plan, which showed us rotating around the departments on our plant and any external training we receive. During college term time we will spent each Tuesdays at college for our theory day. This works well as we get plenty of time to learn practical skills and also enough time to learn the theory.
We receive support from our training provider every 6 weeks to check our log books are up to date and on track. If we need any extra support then we can go to them directly and simply ask. This helps us to progress by making us use our own initiative.
If we encounter a problem at work or at home that may effect us at work we have lots of ways of accessing support, like thorough the support team, mentors, HR team or speaking to our managers
We recieved a subsidy cost in order to help us pay to stay/commute to the college area.
