I am a trainee project manager and some of my day to day jobs involve site visits and writing reports. to add to this, i am currently on a site placement which means am getting first hand experience into how a site is ran and getting involved is updating the program and doing daily checks to make sure the site is safe.
i have developed main skills such as time management. i am currently holding down a full time job while studying towards a degree so i have to ensure that i balance my time well in order to get everything done. i have also learnt some new skills such as how things on site a ran and how to deal with every day problems you'll find on site
i really enjoy my program as am not only actively doing something but i am so working towards a degree. to add to this i am getting some real hands on experience which in a field like construction is vital. i also believe that there's loads of opportunities with in Kier for me to progress on and further my career
i think the program is organised quite well, however, before sending us to university Kier should have got all our apprentices together and got them to do some team building activities. this would have helped us going forward and would have reduced the awkwardness when i first went to university.
i feel like i get loads of support and help and i can speak to my manager about any issues i might be having. furthermore, i feel like i can speak to anyone in my team for help and they'd point me in the right direction or will advise me on how to resolve the problem.
we get emails every now and again from our provider and they respond to any issues we might be having. to add to this, we have a group on teams which we can flag up an issues that we are having and i can communicate with all of my university colleges.
I can apply what i have been learning at university to alot of my day to day task and it helps me to understand the way things should be done. furthermore, seeing first hand what you have learnt at university really helps to concrete my knowledge and understanding for that topic.
there isnt much social activity except monday night football. we also have Christmas parties but other than that there isnt much extra-curricular actives.
Yes
Kier is a amazing company with loads of opportunities to progress your careers. furthermore, i get to travel all across the country and am getting vital experience while getting paid and working towards a degree. if you are looking for a career in construction experience is key and this apprenticeship helps me with that.
Make sure that you are prepared as an apprenticeship is intense and a lot of hard work. Also make sure that you are applying for something you enjoy doing other wise you will end up hating you role and wont be able for-fill your potential. furthermore, you will be working full time so be prepare for that especially if your applying straight from college.
