As a Project Manager I manage budget, risk, opportunities and spend. I use all Microsoft programmes to do this and report on Weekly, Monthly, quarterly and annual basis. This involves a lot of stakeholder management and presentation skills. A lot of governance has to be managed/controlled too via ways such as LCM.
Yes. Working with the customer has allowed me to develop skills of engagement that I would not get in any other business. I have also developed existing skills on Microsoft excel and presentation. Microsoft Project is something I had never used before but I have learnt how to do scheduling and present on that.
I very much enjoy my programme and would recommend it to anyone. You get the best of both worlds by having a full time job and being given lots of exposure and responsibility whilst also doing your Honors degree alongside. You get paid a competitive wage and get your degree paid for too.
For an apprentice, the organisation is set up well. Our scheme leads structure all our roles very well. However, there are constantly org changes in every placement which could make it difficult when coming off the apprenticeship. However it will also open up a lot of opportunities around each platform.
A lot. We have frequent communications from the scheme leads and all other apprentices. We have Project Management Leads in each area of the different placements that offer support to us even though we are not directly in their hierarchy. From senior leaders in the company we get a lot of talks.
We get a lot of support from Blackpool and Fylde College throughout the college year. Tutors are available every week to talk to and have session with to go through assignments and exam revision. There is also a help desk in the central area that we can go to for help.
Everything we learn at college is applicable to the job as it is all to do with Project Management. Even if what you do at college doesn't apply to your current placement, it will always help in the future or show you hat you should progress in to learn more about Project Management.
I am currently seconding at RAF Coningsby and there are plenty of teams there to get involved in such as netball and horse riding. However at sites such as Samlesbury and Warton in the North West, there are not really any team social events to get involved in. However, as apprentices we social outside of work.
Yes
There is so much progression in the company once you come off the apprenticeship. You get to work in a leading defence company that protects our own country as well as others. You get to travel the world with the business if you desire. The benefits you get are amazing such as flexi time and pay.
Spend a lot of time on your initial application as this is filtered through the application process. Ensure that you research the company before you come to the assessment day as it will be question and looks bad if you don't know what we do. Don't lie on your application.
