My apprenticeship consists of five placements within different HR teams in TfL. Some of my daily tasks include managing projects, liaising with stakeholders, spending time on the TfL network meeting TfL employees, attending meetings with Trade Unions and helping to develop HR strategies.
I have learnt a wealth of new skills including: stakeholder management, employee engagement, creating communication plans, employment law, confidence liaising with senior managers and creating business reports.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. It is very varied and challenging and gives me the chance to work on a broad range on HR projects. I have a great support network who are always available to offer help and guidance.
It is extremely structured. I am aware of where my placements will be, how long they are etc.
TfL are incredibly supportive. I have a sponsor who is my overall manager throughout my 2 year apprenticeship. I have a placement manager in every placement I undertake who acts as a line manager. I also have an informal buddy who is a 2nd year apprentice.
My training is provided by Kingston College and they are very well organised and all my tutors are very supportive.
My qualification is very helpful at giving me theoretical knowledge that I can apply to my role (e.g. employee engagement strategies, conflict management strategies, employment law, how to create business reports).
The Graduate & Apprentice committee host frequent networking sessions for graduates and apprentices. You have the option to become a TfL Ambassador and work at TfL stattions, gaining frontline. TfL also have multiple staff network groups you can join.
Yes
It's an amazing organisation to work for - if you work hard your opportunities are endless. It's also great to work for an organisation that contributes so much to the success of London.
Do your research about TfL and their main strategies/commitments to London. Have real life examples of things you have done that prove your statements about yourself e.g. what have you done that shows how hard working you are?
