  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I take part in 4 month placements around my workplace to complete engineering technician roles. This allows a taste of each placement and what is involved. This involves tasks of completing documentation/ drawings/ programming.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learn new skills everyday as there is so much to take in. There is opportunity to learn everyday as each apprentice is placed with a qualified technician who will show you everything you would like to know.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy most days, it can be not enjoyable at times when there is no work ready to be passed to you as my placement are too busy.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured and organised in everything that we do, this is vital as there is not a lot of room for error and employees are busy a lot of the time. This si good training for when we are qualified

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support is on offer if you need it and also I get asked a lot when I see my mentor . There is also support sessions that people can take place in if this suits.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider are normally good but I do not like the style of learning at the college. If help is needed you can always get this from them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Not at all, my college qualification has no current relation to my role as there are so specific. Engineering project gives me an idea of how carrying out projects will be, but this has no current relation to my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads of opportunities to join activities, these are well displayed round the site and on email so that they are not missed.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There are loads of benefits and also you become an well qualified engineering technician with loads of skills and qualifications that are all paid for. It is a good salary when I will have finished my apprenticeship and I can easily move to another company if I wanted.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • I would recommend to be organised, well presented, have ambition and to like a challenge.
