  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Daily tasks vary as our placements change depending on the semester. However, generally I am asked to work on current projects and given tasks that will shadow what managers get involved with. I can shadow managers in their daily work and often my tasks will be part of what they do.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. In the beginning, as with any new experience, I was very nervous to join. However, there are apprentices who are in the second or third year of my programme who have really guided us on this journey. Furthermore, I find the projects I am given extremely interesting and the support from everyone is phenomenal. The study days are also very interesting.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the structure is very organised in the sense that we know what we must do whilst in our roles and how our academic training sessions will fit into this. I also believe that their is thought that goes into the decision making behind assigning us our placement areas.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from the employers. My manager and Line manager are both extremely supportive of any questions I have and are on hand to offer guidance. Furthermore, the older apprentices also provided much needed intel and top tips on how to go about the apprenticeship. All in all I feel supported.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider also provides support in the form of study sessions and reading weeks. I have received a lot of guidance and support from lecturers also. I do believe I have needed to prompt a little of this support however in general I am given guidance when I need it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though the content we study through our training provider for our qualification can be directly applied to my role. I am always able to compare content we have studied with real life situations that occur in the workplace. I can then make decisions knowing I have a strong understanding of the circumstances.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, I have already participated in one networking event, and will be joining two other social open events. There are also opportunities to join sporting teams or women's network teams. Fundamentally, there is something for everyone when you search internally which is a very good thing to see when you are a new starter.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this company because I have had a positive experience overall. I have been supported, guided and given lots of opportunities. Furthermore, the work is engaging and the study sessions are extremely helpful. Overall I am gaining a degree whilst getting lots of real life work experience. All of this is helping to improve myself as a person.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • I would advise them to prepare beforehand by gaining information on the company's website and by asking around. I would also recommend writing a list of your achievements and how they fit in with employable skills. Make sure to mention your extra-curricular involvements such as volunteering and after school events.
