In my current role I am working on contract delivery and communicating with the customer. It requires a lot of organisation, communication and chasing of other functions. I go to college once a week which teaches you the content that you need for every day work.
As this is not my first job I have developed many existing business skills that I can now use within my new role. I have also learnt new skills and how to put these in to place in a larger organisational structure.
I have really enjoyed being a part of this programme so far, I have be lucky enough to have the experience of business travel and work with a number of different teams. It has been a while since I have studied however I feel like there has been sufficient support to get back in to education.
The programme is extremely well structured where by you have the opportunity to try a different placement every 12 months, this gives you the opportunity to see what areas and skills within the business you are strongest in. One day a week at college allows you to bring what you have learnt in to the workplace. The additional opportunities that the scheme brings for example workshops are also a great addition to the programme.
I have received a lot of support from my employer especially having only been here for 4 months. I couldn't have asked for more support. The scheme leaders, placement managers and college tutors are always available to support whenever needed.
My college tutor has provided a lot of support around exams and assignments to help me get back in to being in an education environment and back into writing ways.
It allows you to learn the role of a project manager in isolation first so that when you are in the business you can then apply it. If you have any questions these can be clarified in a closed environment before going into the placement.
I believe that there are however I haven't been a part of these as of yet
Yes
Starting my apprenticeship at BAE has been the best opportunity so far for me, being an older student I have skills that I have gained previously however the additional opportunities and platforms that this programme can give you are hard to come by elsewhere and I am very lucky to have been given this role.
Be yourself, you don't necessarily have to know everything to be chosen, your personality can fit the programme also. You don't need to know exactly what you want to do in the future, just show passion for why you want to be give the opportunity.
