Working with an experienced electrician to deliver jobs on time and it a high standard. Over time gaining the confidence to work independently whilst still meeting the same standards. Speaking to supervisor and site agent to organise works at an appropriate time and to the specification for the overall job
I have learnt a vast amount of new skills. I could never work with cable or anything like this before now I can safely work on a range of cable and containment such as pyro, FP, SWA, twin and earth. I can also work with metal trucking and tray and plastic trunking a pipe
I enjoyed my time as an apprentice a lot as it was exactly what I wanted to go into and now I can see my career progressing and moving further as I learn and develop new skills. College was a lot better than I had expected and different from being in school
SSE is a large company so it has to have a good structure to it so as you could imagine the apprenticeship was the same. We started off with block work and gradually reduced the amount of time at college and increased the amount of time on site making sure we was constantly getting the training required with regular checks from our training officer.
My employer was always there to help me when I was struggling or when I needed things for my apprenticeship. They would provide transport for me to get to and from college as I couldn’t drive at the time I started. They always made sure to give me extra training if I asked for it
You receive an adequate amount of help. You’re supposed to be working towards being independent so they take a step back once they’ve explained it but if it takes you time to understand they will sit with you and break it down so you can understand it better
Without my qualification I wouldn’t be able to do a lot of the jobs in my work and without it I couldn’t be an electrician so having it means that I can continue to work at a high level and insure all safety standards are met and completed
We don’t have much activities out of work but occasionally we play football on a Friday after work at our local five a side pitches which is a good chance to have a laugh with the guys you work with. Once or twice a year we all get together for a night out
Yes
They’re a great company to work for and there’s lot of routes for progression for moving about in the company. They make sure all your needs are met and the company has some great benefits that you can use in your own personal time. So I would definitely recommend
Don’t be put off by the many stages In applying for the apprenticeship it might take a lot of time and you might think you don’t know what you’re doing but chances are that you do it’s a lot of common sense the application process so don’t be thrown off
