I am responsible for providing second line IT Support to users all across the company either face to face in my local office or over the phone remotely to provide assistance to users in other offices. There is a large variety of problems that I am tasked to deal with and no two days are ever the same.
I have learnt lots of new skills whilst being at the company and through my training courses completed under Baltic. This ranges from server installations and operations that can be performed as a server admin to more day to day running knowledge such as simple fixes for common issues that I previously would not have known.
My Programme is enjoyable on the work side of things i.e. completing my day to day responsibilities in the working environment I find fulfilling and interesting. On the learning side, the courses completed through Baltic can be quite heavy going but are important in furthering my knowledge and understanding.
My programme has a very clear and structured format for the learning side from Baltic. There is clear set deadlines for assessment plans to be completed and dates for when I will participate in courses and exams. My days at work are varied but I am still able to plan out what needs doing for the day.
The team around me is fantastic in helping me whenever I need it. Not only do I have the local members of my team but colleagues from other offices are also more than happy to provide assistance with any queries that I may have no matter how simple it might seem to them.
My training provider Baltic are also very supportive. My assessor is only an email away for any questions that I may have regarding assessment plans or other tasks assignments I am working towards completing. When I am on my courses the trainers are very helpful in helping with anything that I am unsure on.
The training and knowledge that I gain through my training provider is directly transferable to my daily working practices. This extra knowledge means that I no longer struggle or at least have some starting point to certain issues that I have never previously seen or worked on before which speeds up the fault finding process.
Yes my company has the opportunities of office football games that take place every other Tuesday on a 5-a-side pitch nearby as well as FIFA tournaments and Pool tournaments. There is also a quarterly payday drinks gathering in the office which is really useful for socialising with other members of the office.
Yes
There is a high level of professionalism and etiquette that is met with a surprising air of calm and relax in the way that practices are completed particularly in I.T.. I do not feel any unnecessary pressure from anyone to complete certain things and have some great close friends in the office.
My advice would be to have confidence in yourself and not to be intimated by what appears on face value to be an incredibly serious and formal environment. There is plenty of opportunity to progress within the company as it is constantly expanding and its is a great time to be working for such an up and coming company.
