I am a pension administrator, this involves taking calls from members of schemes that my team and work on which could be anything to checking if there is a spouses pension payable, address update, bank account update and call from an IFA acting on a members behalf or a call informing us of a death. From the calls regarding an update tasks will be created for the administrators to do and send the correct letters out to the members. A key part of my role is doing the post everyday, we send out lots of documents to members like retirement illustrations where the member would have to fill out forms and return them to us for me to process in the post. There is also much more that my job involves .
During my time here I think I have improved plenty of skills. Everyday I communicate with members of schemes, actuaries, other pen administrators and trustees so since my time her I think I have improved my knowledge of what goes on and all the different terminologies used. We have task that are created for us and different tasks have different deadlines, I think that I have improved my time keeping because I feel good about prioritising certain tasks as they hold more importance than other tasks.
I have really enjoyed my time here so far and would say that it has completely taken me by storm about how good it is. There is so much support provided and everyone wants the best for you, any questions you have will be answered trying to improve you in everyway.
I think that the programme has a good organised structure. This is because we have meetings with the growth company every 6 weeks whether is on Fuze or in person (alternating every 6 weeks) setting us tasks to complete while we carry on with normal work. it helps to understand your role with in the business and over time is all clicks and you understand things about your job that you didn't before very clearly. Barnett Waddingham is very good and want to invest time in you to improve.
since I joined on 2nd September 2019 I have received the correct amount of support to keep me guided in the right way. Anytime I would need any help I can ask anyone around me and they would take time out of their day to sit with me and go through certain things which helps me.
We have only had 2 meetings with our training provider so far (we have 1 coming up very soon) but they provided someone we could talk to regarding anything about how we are getting on in the business or even with the exams. we I have just passed my first exam in the APE qualification so we will speak about that next time we meet up
Since doing the first APE exam I can clearly see links from the work that I have been doing at my desk to the things coming up on the tests which makes it easier in the exams to understand different tings and at my desk when I am doing work on members and something comes up that I am already familiar with. The more exams I do the better understanding I will have.
yes there are, I take part in football (5-a-side) at the Ryland Centre once a week which we organise on Fuze in the Bromsgrove football group chat, since my time here I have done some volunteering at the local farm with a few others her which was really good put on by BW. We even had the chance to come up with a social that was hosted at the office where 40+ people came after work. there is definitely many more that I haven't had chance to get involved with as of yet as I have only been here for 5/6 months
Yes
Because it is a really good business that focuses on employee improvement that offers lots of training to keep you working at the best of you're ability. it feels like more of a community that is striving for excellence and constant improvements which is somewhere you would want to work.
If you are applying to Barnett Waddingham I would say just relax and be yourself when doing your interview / recruiting process as they are looking for skills that you would bring to the company that they can improve on, they can teach you everything you need to learn about pensions but you need to go to the interview and be a team player and someone with social / interpersonal skills that would really excel in a business like this
