My role consist of managing site, this includes dealing with plant and machinery making sure it is suitable for the work being commenced and ensuring the plant have the correct documents and certificates. On site I also deal with the paperwork which is filled in daily with by the labourers on site. As well as this, I complete daily allocation sheets which gives us an idea of the activity happening on site, any issues and the type of materials we have in daily.
During my time in the company I have learnt hands on practical elements of management and how to talk and communicate with the team on site, I can now do briefings and toolbox talks which allows the labourers on site to gain better understanding of the tasks to be carried out on site. Whilst at college I have learnt different aspects of construction which is all new to me and this has helped develop my knowledge when on site.
I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship, since my first day I have felt welcome and settled in well to my job role. This has been achieved by my colleagues and the people I work with. The block releases we have for college has also meant I have been able to meet people from other sites which has been helpful when learning, this has also meant that we are all getting the same education and the best education possible.
The process of applying and joining the company is easy and well organised, the programme itself has also been straightforward meaning that I know what I need to achieve my qualifications and progress further in the future.
The support provided by John Sisk has been great, I have been able to ask and receive the questions and answers I have needed and someone is always happy to help with any issues, my apprentice co-ordinator has been one of my biggest supports when it comes to college and my progression.
The training from Dudley college has been excellent, so far I have had the right learning helping me to achieve the grades I need.
The training from college has increased my ability to be more confident on site as I am gaining more knowledge about the different ways and materials used to build different structures, this helps daily on site as I can put the information learnt at college to practical use on site.
In work we do a lot of charity work which is helping communities in the north west, as well as this I have had support from many women within our company to join the national association for women in construction which helps me meet new colleagues within the company.
Yes
The support and commitment I have received from the company has been phenomenal, this has helped me to settle into my apprenticeship well and has shown a well structure and organised company, this has benefitted me as now I can progress my career further with the support of the company, this could also benefit others with their goals.
I would let people know to be themselves, if they have a true passion for construction it is important to let them know it, reading up about the company and their goals are important to know that they are right for you.
