my day to day work life consists of completing office based tasks that have an effects on the wider business (albeit small ones) I often take part in work that involves travel to other sites and even travel abroad! I do have some responsibilities as an apprentice but there is always a supporting team behind me when I undertake a large task.
definitely, not only have I been taught classic hand fitting techniques and aircraft wiring techniques, I have also had the chance to work on high end and even proprietary systems, working in this environment also helps develop social skills as well, I would definitely recommend this course to anyone with an interest in aircraft.
I really enjoy my programme, there are off days like in any job but mostly the working environment, work load and work type is conducive to a healthy, productive and efficient work space. I would recommend this apprenticeship to anyone who, like me, did not want to go to university straight from school
as an apprentice there are many systems in place to keep us save and monitor our general wellbeing, this sometimes seems more obstructive than productive but it shows how the company cares about us and our future. we are offered support at any hurdle and there are anonymous numbers to ring if you feel the need to speak confidentially. over all I feel a valued member of the team even though ive been here a relatively short time
there are days where the structure falls down a bit but these are few and far between, like any job there are days when you are snowed under and quieter days. the overall structure of the programme is excellent. we know where we are supposed to be and what the future plans are because an immense amount of prior planning goes into the apprentice year and is shared with us.
our training provider does offer support but not to the extent the company does. however the support available has often been used by myself to help me catch up on work I was struggling with, or if I just had a general problem. overall I have been very happy with the training provider and they have taken on board our ideas to make our course more enjoyable.
The subjects studied for the Diplomas are highly relevant to the engineering fields in which we work. the "strength of materials" and "Further analytical methods units in particular have been really helpful in providing valuable context to engineering problems in the workplace and provide the skills required to tackle complex engineering problems.
there are often interdepartmental sports events such as 5 a side football, Tough Mudders and Go karting arranged by management. these events are often subsidised and are designed to encourage team working and the development of stronger working relationships. I've found through my own experiences that taking part in out-of-work activities with your team helps to build better working relationships.
Yes
I would recommend this programme for anyone, who like me, was told at sixth form that university was the only option. I was looked down upon when I applied here but I wouldn't change a thing, best of all there's no student debt and the company offers a programme where they pay for your degree. this programme is better suited to kinaesthetic learners who enjoy and thrive through learning-by-doing.
research the company, we have a rich history spanning over 100 years, present yourself professionally, put time and effort into your interview planning. during the assessment days make sure you read all instructions thoroughly to avoid mistakes. overall just be yourself. if you have a passion for engineering and a willingness to learn you'll do just fine
