My job role is BIM/CAD Technician, where I create 2D and 3D drawings of mechanical and electrical installation designs for commercial properties. I often get involved in the engineering tasks involved creating the design.
I started working here straight after A levels continuing in engineering I had already used CAD and have continued learning more specifically for building engineering.
I value the experience I am learning on the job alongside university studies, however do find it difficult to keep balance around exam and assignment times.
I started on a level 3 programme, to progress onto HNC, HND then degree. Part way through the level 3 I found I would be going straight to level 6 upon completing the end point assessment. I think this needed clarity.
I have an in office mentor that is my official point of contact however I have found that all colleagues are helpful in my professional work load and university questions.
Level 3 was very supportive Level 6 is obviously more self learning involved but I know its all about the effort I put in now which will reflect my final grade.
Applying the off the job learning to practice is a much better way for me to learn. The course is based on my progression to becoming an engineer.
I am a CIBSE YEN Committee Co-Vice Chair. Often take part in sports and social events through the office including the European soccer tournament.
