I am required to support my team with testing of systems and their functionalities, reviewing requirements that are required and producing tests to meet those, update documents that are needed to support systems, maintain support calls and attend meetings that my team are required to attend.
I have developed my communication skills as I need to work with many different people. I have also learnt networking and virtualisation skills as I have been hands on with the different systems that we support.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I get to do many different tasks that I would not have had the opportunity to do elsewhere.
The programme is well structured to meet my needs and it also allows me to work around to get the most out of it. The placement managers also listen to our thoughts on what can be improved.
I get a lot of support from my employer, they are always willing to listen and make changes to ensure that I am happy in my position.
My training provider is very poor; the lecturers do not turn up on time or if at all. The assignments that we are given can miss out important criteria meaning if we do not bring it up, this will not be fixed. I recommend finding a new training provider.
My qualification does not help me to perform better in my role, the teachers like their lessons to be taught their way, or no way. This is not how our employers work, our training provider doesn't make any changes to their lessons even though they ask for feedback.
There are many extra-curricular activities that I can get involved with; there is football, the gym, badminton, mentoring at a local primary/secondary school etc. There are sometimes professional networking events that I can attend.
Yes
Although management do not always treat the staff the way that they deserve, the other engineers and co-workers ensure that I understand what I am doing and go out of their way to help me if I need help, they are willing to put their time into helping dedicated apprentices.
Show that you are motivated and dedicated to the role that you are placed in; don't always give in to management, they aren't the engineers that are to produce the work.
