My role within the business is to provide support to various teams by managing their hardware and assisting in the removal, maintenance and installation of various kits that they need to use on a day-to-day basis. Often I will be inputting hardware into a logging system and ensuring that any hardware I put into cabinets is properly secured and connected as it should be. I often talk to many different teams in the building and assist them through hardware activities.
I have learnt to communicate effectively with other members of a team and in a professional manner, this was a skill I previously had but have improved upon heavily during my time with the business. I have also learnt how to safely carry out physical tasks and minimise the risks to myself and other employees in the working environment. This was a skill I had not need in the past but it has been very beneficial to learn it.
My programme is interesting, engaging and exciting. My programme keeps me actively engaged with many different employees, which I enjoy as I am able to learn a lot from more experienced employees. On a daily basis I get to move around and am not sat at my desk all day, this is refreshing for me as I do not work best when I am subjected to the same environment on a daily basis. Management of my programme has been good and I am well catered for by managerial staff members.
My programme is well structured with clear paths of progression and expectations from both myself and business throughout my apprenticeship. Moreover, the organisation of my programme is good, I am able to organise apprentice reviews, meetings and attend apprentice mandatory activities without clashing with work in my placements. I am often given adequate notice for any events I must attend.
My employer supports me at all times, I have never been in a position where my employer has not/not been able to support me. The environment I work in allows me to share any concerns I have without the fear of being judged or mocked. I know there are many tools available from my employer that I can use to reach out and get further assistance from if I feel it is needed.
I receive strong support from my training provider to reach my qualifications, I am given 1 to 1 support when needed to help keep me on track for my grades. I am given the tools I need to be able to find correct and reputable sources of information for my work.
I often feel that most of my qualifications are not relevant to the work I carry out in my role. Although this is because the course and training provider do not have the necessary hardware available. Some of the work I do it translatable, but it is often only the practical tasks that help me perform better in my role.
My work offers the opportunity to get involved in sports, social events and networking events. They offer a membership to allow employees to attend sports such as badminton or table tennis, as well as the chance to attend theatre shows or get massages. On a less frequent basis professional networking events are available for me to attend and I am encouraged to do so.
Yes
The business is well known and I feel that it cares about my future. I am given the opportunity to get involved with many different areas of the business and am encouraged to do so during my placements. I feel that the working environment is comfortable and the other employees are friendly and helpful.
It is important to work hard to obtain your qualifications and show your skills in placements as this is key to "getting your foot in the door" when it comes to future opportunities. Many teams speak to each other and good work is noticed, recognised and rewarded by the business. It is very important that you behave in a professional way at all times as you represent the business and are responsible in part for maintaining its image.
