My role is production services the job i do is a crane driver/slinger on a day to day basis i move loads in my work bay ranging from plate metal to complex builds which can be very large to do this i use a overhead crane which is remotely operated
I have learned new skills as prior to this i worked as a taxi driver, In this new role i have learned to use overhead cranes and also how to load the cranes and lift by using a variety of lifting equipment
I am enjoying my program alot as its teaching me new kills which i have not ever had the chance to learn there are certain things being a older apprentice i am struggling with a little such as returning to collage but i understand that this is part off the learning also in some ways being a older apprentice this has helped me to intergrate a little easier in the work place
I find the structure very well organised especially if you are experiencing issues BAE have been excellent in supporting roles if i have needed support i feel the structure is there in learning from the start we were slowly integrated into the business over the first few months gaining the appropriate knowledge of the business site
The support i get from my employer is second to none Bae will really look after and support everyone if you have issues they will help you they fully understand the importance of training and support to there workforce and from a personnel point off view i have had a issue which has been dealt with in a very understanding and professional manner which really showed me how much the company looks after its employees
From all my tutors at collage we get excellent help and if needed we can get extra support all we need to do is ask at collage we have a Bae representative on site as well who we can also speak to when i am working on site we are placed with a journeyman who is there to guide us in our work based learning they to are very supportive if we need any help or advice they are there. I like my worked based learning more than collage base learning in all honesty this is due to my age being a apprentice at 43
There are certain parts of my collage learning that do help in my role which i do from learning about metals also the health and safety side working on the lifting side of the business learning the LOLER regulations has being invaluable to me also going back to general maths which i have not used in a long time for example calculating surface areas off an object so yes i have used these in the workplace and it has helped me in my job role
There are lots of extra activities you can get involved in within BAE from football to social activities in fact i have taken advantage of one such thing i have become involved in the apprentice council which has a varied role about it from being able to support apprentices to organizing social events for charitable causes
Yes
BAE offer a excellent apprenticeship Program with excellent training and you are well rewarded if you do what you are asked you will always be recognized and the benefits off working within a blue chip from the share package to the pension scheme is excellent when you have come out off your apprenticeship there are opportunities to climb the courier ladder you also can change your role if you desire the company will help you in the best way they can
Applying for the apprenticeship is quite long online i personally broke it down over a period of a few days and wrote out in a word document first you must also be 100 percent honest just take time and care use examples which can relate to the questions asked when filling out. interviews be yourself do the best you can no one is perfect take examples off work in if you can do, try be calm dont worry ,
