Currently I'm am learning my trade in welding. This includes two days in the classroom learning the ins and outs of everything to do with welding and health and safety. I spend three days in the workshop learning how to weld. Also we do a safe guarding session every Tuesday which is very important for people of all ages to keep safe in day to day life, also so we know our company is there in times of need for all employees.
I have learnt lots of new skills being new to welding. I think it is a very difficult skill to learn so thanks to our tutor we are able to learn different welding techniques and all thing about the welding equipment that will help us to do a top quality job which will be pivotal when we are out of out time.
I really enjoy the programme. I think this is a big opportunity to work for a very big company and its on my doorstep. It's a great feeling to be working on one of the country's biggest defences with plenty of years work available which will give me a lot of stability moving forwards.
I think the programme is very well structured. There is a good balance of being in the college learning practical and theory, also with people from inside the yard coming over often to check on us. They interact with us and remind us the importance of the skills we are learning and how important we are for the future of the company as new tradesmen.
With bae as my employer I feel very safe and in good hands. They fill you with reassurance with plenty of people available to speak to and point you in the right direction. There is somebody always available on college ground to go to if you are in need or just need a bit of advice.
We have two very good tutors who take us at college. They are very knowledgeable having been in the trade for a long time so they not only have theory and practical knowledge that we need, they have valuable site knowledge they share with us incase we find ourselves in that position one day.
As an apprentice we have only just started working towards our qualification. I think the path we are on and the knowledge we are gaining everyday will help us to preform very well in our roles in the company. We still have a lot of experience to gain but once out of our time I think we will be prepared for what is ahead of us.
Since I have been in college with bae there has been no extra curricular activities to take part in. I think the main focus is on us to learn what we are there to do in our apprenticeship. Maybe they could look into adding bits in in the future but we have a very hectic schedule.
Yes
I would definitely recommend the company to a friend. Obviously the big drag is the money. But there are alot of positives that go with working for bae. Job security, buying into shares, good holidays and sick period, working for one of the biggest company's in the world and bae is very big on employee well being.
My main advice would be to research abit about what you want to do. Make sure it's the right step for you. Revise abit about the company and fill in the application form the best you can. If you are lucky enough to get to the interview stage be confident and be yourself.
