I have been the lead coordinator on the Graduate recruitment campaign which has enabled me to get a broader overview of how British Airways recruit their emerging talent employees including apprentices, business placements, interns and graduates. I have carried out briefings to senior assessors to ensure a smooth running of the day.
I have learnt many new skills during my time at British Airways. These would include time management, organisation, communication, presentation skills, leadership and many more. I already had a wide range of skills, however I have been able to put these into practise at B A as there are lots of opportunities
I have enjoyed every part of my apprenticeship programme so far. Working towards a level 4 Business Admin is tough but very enjoyable. Balancing the NVQ and work has proved easier than I expected, and I am offered so many different opportunities for an apprentice. I would recommend to anyone not sure about uni.
My programme has a very structured plan, however due to some changes within out training provider, the nvq side of it has been a little harder than usual. But other than this slight hiccup the B A side of it is very structured and I have a lot of support.
At B A the managers are very supportive of all the opportunities that I have received. For example, I was able to get a week of shadowing at terminal 5 (Heathrow) where I went out on the ramp and carried out safety audits and looked at loading, baggage and engineering.
The training provider are good at presenting workshops and learning days. There was a change in assessor for my cohort, however the change was smooth and we had all the support that we needed at all times. It was as if nothing had changed and we can always speak to our assessor if we need help.
I have learnt so many skills such as better team work which has enabled me to work better as a team member and built my confidence. The workshops are all very interesting and also very relevant to the role. This has enabled me to work better within my apprenticeship now.
I have attended many events during my time at BA. This includes graduation events for past apprentices, flying start Christmas balls etc. Flying Start is the B A charity that works alongside comic relief to help support projects within the UK and abroad. I also had the opportunity to fly to South Africa to visit some of the projects that we have helped fund.
Yes
There are so many opportunities that I have had to go and shadow different areas of the business. There are good benefits of working for an airline which is always good, however the opportunities for work are amazing. I really believe that this was the best option for me rather than going to university.
I would advise that anyone who is applying to B A expresses themselves in their applications. The company likes to employ people that have a good personality and a good work ethic so examples of situations are always good as they strengthen your answer. Be yourself and don't pretend to be somebody you are not.
