I am a credit control apprentice carrying out a business admin qualification. Daily tasks include sending out invoices to customers, allocating payments to the correct and account, investigating unapplied payments and chasing customers to meet payment due date. I allocate 20% of my working time to my apprentice coursework. I have a very close net team who are always supportive and assist with both my on the job learning and my apprentice coursework. I have regular catch ups with my manager where we focus on goal setting and ways i can improve and excel.
I have most certainly gained many new skills! These range from simple character building skills such as confidence to role specific skills such as software use. I have definitely gained more confidence in how i carry myself and in my own abilities. My subject knowledge on how business operations operates as a whole as grown massively as well as knowledge specific to credit control.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. I always receive endless amounts of support and i always know there will be someone i can ask for advice or just reassurance. I have been able to go on a week away with all the apprentices to the Lake District, this was a great week of socialising and team building. To celebrate our Q3 kick off we all went go karting which was great fun. Softcat offers so much more than i ever expected from an office based job.
My programme has a great structure where i allocate my time efficiently. I allocate every Monday morning and Thursday afternoon (20%) to my business admin apprentice work. I have an apprentice group training session once a month and a one-to-one meeting with my apprentice development coach monthly. This structure allows me plenty of time to complete my work with out building up stress./
Support is offered from all different levels. I have support from my apprentice manager, my learning and development mentor, my apprentice development coach, my fellow apprentices and also my team mates. We also have a online platform where there is resources to give that extra level of support when person to person interaction may not be necessary. I have never had any struggles which haven’t been resolved from the constant support I have received.
Our training provider has regular communication with us to resolve any issues or questions. We have an online platform with resources provided by our training provider to give that extra level of support. Every month we have a group session and one-to-one with our Remit development coach. Our development coach can also track our progress online and offer extra guidance and support where they see necessary.
Working towards a business admin qualification enables me to see the company as a whole and doesn’t narrow my skills to one specific role. Although i have an apprenticeship within the credit control team I believe that the skills i have learnt can be adapted to any role within a business.
There are many extra-curricular that Softcat offer to us. This ranges from being part of a network group to actual activities. Every Friday there is yoga which is such a great opportunity to meet people within the company who you don’t normally work with as well as offering that health and stress relief element.
Yes
I have had nothing but an amazingly positive experience with Softcat. I have already recommended many of my friends to look into Softcat with many of them being sold on just what i told them. I struggled so much finding something to do after I finished school, I wish someone had told me about Softcat sooner.
Do it! Look in to all the roles. Although we are and IT reseller and in the tech industry there are so many more roles than just tech roles and i am sure there is something that will stand out to anyone who looks. Don’t just look at the role but look at the company as a whole, they look after you so well and I don’t think i would ever find an employer better than Softcat.
