On a day to day basis I receive request from Internal Account Managers and provide them with quotes to send out to their customers. We also work with vendors and distributors to get discounted pricing. We register larger deals through vendor portals to secure the deal with the customers. As a sales support our main customers are the internal account managers and don’t tend to interact with customers face to face.
New skills that I have learnt during this role is the confidence to communicate with people in an effective way and provide the relevant information for the account managers to use. I have also learnt how to locate my ways round different vendor portals and get discounted pricing with distribution.
I thoroughly enjoy this programme. The work load is a lot, but being busy only makes the days go quicker! My team (and everyone)at Softcat are really welcoming and always happy to help with questions you have. The coursework on the side is enjoyable and helps when you are on the job.
The apprenticeship is really well organised and provides a structure to your day. Your training programmes set out for you before you start and it’s easy to locate where training is taken place and what time it starts. Your coursework on the side is also structured in sections and are told when your next session is and what needs to be done before the session.
The support we receive from everyone is excellent! Everyone is so willing to help with anything you have going on, from questions about work to questions outside of work. You are included in all team events and never singled out for being an apprentice. Breakfasts are provided in the morning and lots of facilities for food and drink around the office.
From the training providers we receive lots of support, when they are in and out of the office. We have the access to email them 24/7 whenever we have any queries. They support you with the workload and appreciate the fact that we all have day to day jobs to maintain.
I believe my qualification helps me perform a lot better in the role that I am in. I came from a background that wasn’t very IT based and feel like I have learnt a lot since being here. We have sessions twice a month and we learnt a lot in those sessions, which sometimes can be overwhelming but they are always willing to help if struggling.
There are loads of extra activities to do outside of work, making it easy to make connections with people outside of your team. Big events such as the kick off event which is for the whole company and smaller events such as 5 a side through the office are some events we do to make connections with new people.
Yes
Softcat is an excellent business, who makes everyone feel welcome, whoever they are. The vibrant atmosphere was what drew me in at the start. The fun people have around the office is incredible with little things to the big events that occur in the office. Softcat is an excellent place to come to, if you want to learn and have fun.
If you are applying for Softcat, I would highly recommend you do so :) Don’t hesitate in doing so because what they do here is so supportive of everyone and the different learning careers. Providing us with excellent training when we first start, to on the job training when we started fully.
