  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at Softcat consists of various different aspects from networking, consulting and selling to building lasting relationships with customers, partners and colleagues. Each day is different and exciting and I consistently look forward to the different challenges each day offers. To say I love my job would be an understatement and I urge every young person who is torn between work or university to consider looking down this avenue as it opens up so many doors, not to mention you’re earning while you’re learning!

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes 100%! Softcat has taught me to engage with my customers in such a way that I have built some very strong working relationships as well as friendships which continue to this day. Not to mention they have given me the tools to organise and excel in my working life as well as the confidence to strive outside of work within my personal life.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I don’t just enjoy my programme, I love it! As an older apprentice I thought I would struggle being surrounded by apprentices a lot younger than me however Softcat and Remit have done everything they can to support me and allow me to grow within my role at a rate that suits me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well! The attention to detail from both Softcat and Remit is second to none and I could recommend this partnership any more. The content of the apprenticeship is well measured and very well delivered from the training side to the implantation in the work place. A big thumbs up from me!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • More than enough! The support offered is by far better than any I have received in previous job roles because they genuinely care for their employees. They would rather see their current staff excel through the company rather than bringing somebody external in. Not only that, they are amazing when it comes down to any personal issues you may have that may be affecting your work life

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Massive amounts! Russ at Remit is so knowledgeable about technology and teaching that he is a natural fit when an apprentice is looking for support. With that being said, everybody at remit is more than happy to help with whatever query you may have and there is always someone on hand to help!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Very well! Not only does it increase my knowledge of technology but it also educates me on the side of sales not many people talk about. For example the psychology behind buying and selling behaviours, the different sales parts of the sales cycle and much much more. It will also look very good to have this qualification on my CV.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • So many its hard to count! There are various activities within work, for example founders day, kick off events and different celebrations. They also offer activities like poker night, 5-aside football, pool tournaments, table tennis comps, lunch of the quarter, half year incentives, full year incentives and much much more

  • 9a. Would you recommend Softcat to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because they very much take the outlook of “look after your employees and your employees will look after your business”. By taking this approach it encourages Softcatters to strive to be the best they can be each day because they enjoy what they do and they get treated as you’d expect.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • Don’t be afraid to try something new. Work hard and I promise you Softcat will give you what you need to play even harder. So really I would say go for it, what’s the worst that can happen? Softcat is by far the best company i have ever worked for!
