  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Breaking into new customer account and ensuring I continue a high level of customer service to my current customers. A massive focus in Softcat is to break into new business and ensure we are growing throughout the market as there are so many customers to go after and continue to grow as a company.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have come out my comfort zone a lot throughout the apprenticeship. The biggest factor in this was presentation skills, before Softcat I had not presented well, ever since starting Softcat I have improved these massively as you get many opportunities to present in front of groups of people. I have also improved my face to face skills by going on as many meetings as possible.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love working at Softcat, the apprenticeship has not just provided skills for my role at Softcat is has helped me in everyday life skills. • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our programme is structured very well, our calendars are always up to date months before our training sessions where Remit come into the office. This means we are able to plan our weeks around when we have training as we need to make sure we are always attending training sessions.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive constant support from our employer. They ensure we are still enjoying the role and also the training provided my Remit. We have a quarterly kick off where all the apprentices, not just sales get together and do an activity, go-karting, cocktail making etc. This keeps the morale high for all of us.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • During our final stages of our apprenticeship we had lots of coursework to work towards but also much higher targets to hit. Softcat providing a lot of support when trying to achieve a distinction in my coursework. They made sure i still had a healthy work and personal life balance which was the main thing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Everything we learn in training and work through is very relevant to our day to day role at Softcat. Throughout the year I could see myself improving in my day role as during training they would put us into real life situations of how things would occur in our day to day role so in a sense I would be able to practice the situation before this even happened.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I get involved in as many extra curricular activities as possible, I always play Monday night football at a school near our office. Get involved in going for a run in the mornings before work as it helps to start my day right. I also try and get involved in charity/volunteer days.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Softcat to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to work and they really look after you ensuring that you have a really healthy work and personal life balance. I can see a long career working here as it is definitely a company that will help me thrive in a career for the future.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • Just to be yourself, Softcat hire personable people. You may be really good at the job but if you can't get involved in the company culture and enjoy your work then this wouldn't be the role for you. It is a very work hard play hard kind of job.
