My Overall role is within the legal and business assurance function. On a day to day basis i manage the company's business management system , audit adherence and trackers and write processes and look over contracts. My daily interactions are throughout the whole of the business from engineering to finance and I have plenty of responsibilities that keep me extremely busy.
I have developed excellent continuous improvement and business development skills that i can use all over the business and apply to different tasks. I have also added to my existing confidence and communication skills as i speak to new people everyday and are pushed out of my comfort zone. Along with this, In my studies i have learnt loads of new knowledge that i can apply to my day to day life as well as in the workplace.
I really enjoy my scheme with BAE as it is not a normal apprenticeship, my employers really treat me as a responsible adults and allow me to push myself and challenge myself with whatever placements and tasks i feel will benefit me. Working for my employer is very exciting and i see and learn new things everyday.
Although i was the first apprentice in this role the structure of my apprenticeship has been organised but relaxed. I was allowed to chose my own placements that i thought would be the most beneficial and interesting as well as having plenty of time to complete my studies and to relate that to my day to day tasks.
I receive plenty of support from my employer, they have supported me with my studies and given me plenty of time and acknowledgment to complete and gain the knowledge needed to transfer my skills. My employer has also supported me in building both my professional and personal skills to ensure i am becoming the best individual by the end of my scheme.
I had a lot of support from my training provider, i even managed to complete it a year early! I had monthly face-to-face visits that would allow me to go through my objectives and tasks and gain support as well as having 24/7 support by email and skype if i needed anything from my personal tutor/mentor.
My qualification was extremely relevant to my day to day jobs and to use in other functions as it was a very good course with transferable skills. It allowed me to perform better at my job as both my employer and training provider helped my apply my qualification to my role.
I personally don't take part in any extra-curricular activities in work, however i know there are sports etc. that are available. I do use the gym at work everyday which is really useful and free! I also regularly hang out and go to social events with the other apprentices and graduates and the company supports that.
Yes
Before starting an apprenticeship i was concerned that i would not have any real responsibility or tasks that would improve my skills but BAE have allowed me to have real responsibilities and objectives that make me feel part of the team. Also, due to the culture of the company and its nature it is more exiting than any other office job!
Ensure you do your homework and understand the companies values and objectives, as well as how they impact our country, be confident and speak up. When applying for BAE it is important that you show your initiative and that you stand out from any other individuals that are applying for the job.
