I arrange funerals and support the deceased's love ones. I sit down with the families and help then decide how they would like to send off their loved one. I listen to them and empathise with them. I help them understand what a funeral is all about. I support them when if they decide to have chapel visits. I also help people plan their own funeral by talking them through funeral plans, what they are and how they work.
I've learnt so much in my time in this industry and my apprenticeship has helped tremendously. I previously worked for the NHS so moving into a job role like this was a massive change and I've gained so much confidence in myself and my way of working. My apprenticeship has taught me stuff that I haven't yet seen or come across face to face but it's given me and insight and the confidence to approach it when the time comes.
I love this programme. Although learning this industry comes with hand on experience, by doing my apprenticeship it's helped me so much and made me want to learn so much more about the funeral industry and in time I'd like to extend my knowledge further a field maybe to become a Funeral Director.
It's very organised and well structured. Some questions on some units seem to repeat themselves but I think it's probably to cover other things that you might not have mentioned when you answered the original question. There are lots to elaborate on it all the units which increases your learning.
To date I've not had to actually look for support from my employer but my manager is more than happy to offer that if it is needed. If I feel I need further help or training then within reason it will be made available but at the moment I feel it isn't necessary.
I receive lots of support from my training provider and I'm sure if I needed further support this would also be made available. there have been a couple of times when work has had to come before my training time and my assessor has taken that on board and rearranged our visit/calls
it helps me perform better in my role but teaching me about the industry that I have chosen a career in. there has been lots of stuff in my training that hasn't yet become available to me in house for whatever reason but I know when it does come up, I'll feel confident enough to take it on.
my company is very community friendly and we can do whatever we want, within reason, that will help us do our job and bring business in. If we have an idea for something then we can discuss it with our manager and if they feel this idea is good then we can try it out.
Yes
Because it's a good company to work for, very driven. It's a national company that is recognised by so many people. There are good perks available to the staff as well as support if it is needed. The people I work with are good team players as well.
Go for it. Whether is in food retail, insurance or funeral or anything else, Co-op is a good company to work for and is recognised all over. It can be quite hard for people to comprehend that there are other companies that are also called Co-op and it doe's take some explaining but we have a log that is widely recognised.
