Meeting families to organise funerals when a loved one has died. Selling funeral plans, caskets, headstones and masonry.
Yes, the apprenticeship meant that I learned about funeral law, the whole process of organising a funeral, the paperwork involved and going into more depth about the products we offer to customers and the organisations that make sure we comply.
Parts of it I enjoyed because they helped me to do my job better. Other areas such as safeguarding were not relevant and seemed like an exercise we had to do without much benefit. Likewise the reflective logs were only useful on some occasions.
The programme was well structured and the timeframe with approx 6 week intervals was also ok - my biggest issue was that the majority of the work I did for my apprenticeship I did at home, not the 20% time out of my working hours. It is impossible to concentrate on completing your apprenticeship tasks when the phone is ringing and the public are coming into the funeral home - there were issues with staffing and nowhere else in the building I could work so ended up doing 80% of it at home which was not the point.
None - it was completely down to myself to complete each topic and liaise with my coach from PeoplePlus.

The company has good ethical standards and is constantly trying to raise money for local causes. I work with a good team of people and respect my Managers, although they are stretched quite thin with their workload they do the best job they can.
Apply and complete the apprenticeship because it is an effective way of improving your knowledge and confidence.
