Managing the entire business as a duty manager. Team management, liaising with outer agencies such as retails help desk to resolve issues. Cash handling, guest journey, meeting targets and making decisions based on the running of the business. Training staff and ensuring continuity throughout the business. Coaching and mentoring as needed. Ensuring my own training is up to date to be able to coach my staff.
Maths has always been a weekness of mine and I truly believed to be a part of management I needed better maths skills. The level 2 maths gave me a bit more confidence around numbers and made me realise I don't need to be Einstein, basic knowledge is enough.
I really enjoyed the programme, so much so that I am eager to start the next stage of my development. The support throughout from both the trainer's and my company was second to none. The programme helped to squash some of the stigma and preconceptions i had around apprenticeships.
Well structured and flexible around lifestyle. I am a mum of 2 children and work full time I didn't think I'd be able to find time for the extra work involved with and apprenticeship but it really is doable. Again the support from my manager and my trainer helped.
The support I received was amazing. I couldn't have chosen a better company to pursue a career with. It isn't just support from my direct team neither, the area managers and even the people who work at head office have been available through email and telephone to answer any queries or to just offer support.
The continued support from my direct lifetime trainer was great. She was constantly in contact with me and was always prepared for our meetings and offered support at the toughest times when I needed it most. Couldn't have asked for any more from her as a trainer or mentor.
It helped me to build on these skills I had already started learning through my progression within the business. It also offered me an alternative perspective to the business than just the one I have. I am able to use and adapt these skills in my daily work and I'm also able to pass these skills on to my team.
Yes, we have a staff pool league where we all compete for the title. This helps to build on relationships in the workplace as you learn more about your colleagues than just in work time. It also offers a healthy competition within the team and some common ground for everyone.
Yes
Marstons have helped me to turn a job into a career, and not just any career, it's one that I whole heartedly enjoy. No two shifts are the same and the opportunities that have been given to me I cannot be any more greatful for. They genuinely care about progress and development.
If you have the passion and the drive for this industry then this is the company for you. The support and encouragement for further career progression and development I have received has been second to non! Every company has its pros and cons but marstons pros outweigh the cons for sure!
