Attending college and carrying out engineering procedures. This includes learning how to use machines such as lathes, milling machines and pillar drills. Alongside this we also use hand fitting techniques such as filing to finish parts which you cannot do with machine. alongside this we are taught: Mechanical principals, Level 3 maths, Engineering materials, health and safety and CAD.
I have learnt how to effectively operate a 5 axis CNC milling machine, how to operate a standard milling machine and lathe. I have also improved on my hand fitting ability by learning new techniques such as the one used for filing radii. On top of this I have developed my team working skills helping other as needed.
I very much enjoy the program as it is based on an overall subject which I find very interesting; engineering. this is aided by the atmosphere provided by both college tutors and colleges at work, seen as these are always willing to help and keep the atmosphere of the work place positive.
The overall structure of the program is good, with the way you gain all skills before going to work at college. however the organization of college is not very good at all seen as we've already had 4 tutors for maths since September, which makes it hard to make progress because as soon as your comfortable you change tutor.
We receive support from our employer in a steady fashion, helping us out and reviewing our experience with us so that any problems could be resolved. Also when any serious problems arise and we notify them they come in and sort out such issues with haste. Which helps support us as we have issues solved quickly.
the training provider; Lincoln college is very supportive when working towards qualifications all the tutors are very helpful and easy to understand when teaching. However this is not the case in two of our level 3 subjects. Maths and materials. our tutors for maths are forever changing and the last two we have been given do not help even when you ask. and our materials teacher claims to give us the required information but does not actually.
the qualification is helpful as it teaches us skills that will be used on the shop floor. this means that when on site less time is spent being shown and more on doing work. this makes the process at work more effective due being able to do more work less learning.
We have taken part in volunteering for both good committee effect and to help build team skills as we re bedded an eco garden. there are multiple opportunities to take part in opportunities like this one.
Yes
It is an overall good place to work where you get taught all you need to know and more which ensures you are ready to do all work. they also ensure that if you cannot secure a job with them they will ensure you have alternative employment already in place.
include your experience, academic and real world as this allows them to gauge what kind of person you are. they do not rely on grades to give you a job, it is how you are as a person for example if you will be easy to work with and teach. they look for good qualities within people.
