Currently I work in Detail Design for T26, so I spend most of my time doing drawings, I currently work in layout so I do arrangement drawings for compartments on the ship, I have also recently been working on change which involves troubleshooting and working on problems that have been raised in the design.
I have developed a lot of skills in using both 3D and 2D CAD working on the Model and when doing drawings, I have also developed my problem solving and trouble shooting skills due to the unpredictability of the problems that I am facing this also allows me to work on my communication skills due to having to contact different people who have worked the task initially.
I greatly enjoy my programme as it has given me a great amount of training and experience working in the field I want to work in, It has also given me a the chance to receive a HND in Mechanical engineering all while giving me a very competitive salary for n apprenticeship.
My programme is well organised in particular due to the amount of apprentices that have been through the course before me meaning that the Early Careers staff and the rest of the business are very use to working with apprentices from the programme and it is very well structured also due to the team being well experienced.
I receive a lot of support from my employer in the form of the Early Careers team providing me with support through my training officer, I also receive support through my local apprentice council which has a monthly news letter that given useful information out about things happening that concern apprentices.
I received plenty of support from my employer working towards my qualifications in particular I was given days in work to study by my line manager we were also given leave to go into college on the days before our exams in order to get in some extra supported study.
Yes I do believe that the training and qualifications I have received have been incredibly useful in my role in allowing me to understand the background of what I am working on in particular in some of my placement the maths skills learned at college where directly applicable to my role.
From what I understand there are a number of the activities that have began to appear recently but I have received very little information on them as they are quite poorly advertised by there organisers apart from a couple of stand out events like a young vs olds football games.
Yes
I would recommend the apprenticeship as it provides a great job and education in a very competitive industry with a very good starting salary for an apprenticeship, it also provides great opportunities to advance alongside a very high chance of staying on with the company as BAE has a very high apprentice retention rate.
my number one piece of advice for people applying to BAE is to do a bit of research first into the projects and work carried out by the company in particular what is worked on by BAE in Glasgow, this shows that you have a real interest in what you are applying for.
