My role at the minute within the company is very college based. I attend college full time with the aim of achieving a hnc in engineering systems and svq level 2. This will allow me to progress into the company in my second year to which I will begin my svq level 3 and be on day release to college for my hnd in a preferred discipline.
Within college I have learned many new skills such as how to operate a pneumatic circuit, how to interpret electrical diagrams and how to use cad software. I have also been able to enhance my team working and communication skills through various different activities that we have been put through in college.
In my opinion so far I have really enjoyed the programme. Each day brings new challenges and problems that I have to figure out and work around and I have enjoyed the diversity of the course. In college all my lecturers have been very helpful and I am on target to achieve my hnc.
I feel the programme so far has been very well structured. We are given a good amount of time to complete any task or project that we are given and we are given a lot of instruction on what is required of us. The programme so far has been very smooth and rewarding.
I believe that I receive a lot of support from my employer, if there is ever a problem in college we can simply text our line manager and they will be quick to text us back with a solution. The communication between college and work has been great so far.
As mentioned in the previous question we do receive a lot of information which is very helpful from our training provider. Within college we are always given a hand to ensure we understand exactly what we are doing. If we are ever stuck we can ask a lecturer for immediate help.
This is a hard question to answer at this very minute as I am full time in college and haven’t actually had a chance to take my new learnt skills into a working environment. However I would say that from my own point of view I am now able to perform much better within a team that before.
The work provided us with an outward bound experience in October of last year. This was great as we were allowed to work within teams and push ourselves outside our comfort zones. It pushed us to use skills that we never thought we had and enhance skills already gained. I really enjoyed this experience.
Yes
I would recommend bae systems to a friend as my experience so far has been very good and I have gained a lot from what I have learned already in college. The structure of the programme is very good and as newcomers into the business we were welcomed with open arms. The pay we receive is well above average.
One piece of ado ice I would give is to make sure that this is the type of engineering apprenticeship you are looking for. Our job is very office based and the challenges we receive change on a day to day basis. Make you are prepared to work in a fast passed environment.
