The day to day tasks vary depending upon what placement that you are in. Each department will get you involved with what work they have on at any time, so jobs can range from creating plans, updating documents, creating new documents, checking data is corrected, emailing/contacting people on other sites to gain more information for the job at hand.
While working in the placements, I have learnt how to write in the appropriate format for the company, I have improved upon my communication skills. As well as getting better with managing on going tasks to ensure that they are all completed within the timeframe provided. Furthermore I have continued to develop my abilities with various programs such as the microsoft package.
I have been enjoing the programme as it gives you good insight into what jobs the various different departments do day to day, it also gives you the chance to get to know a lot of different people on site, as well as getting to know who is best to ask for help on various different tasks. Another good plus is that there is the chance to do genuine work and not just "apprentice tasks" and so you can feel as though you are contributing to the contry.
The programme is well organised and structured, there is a clear plan on where each apprenctice will be and for how long, for instance out 2nd year we have 3 placements each of 4 months. The placements where sorted in advancted and a plan was given to each apprentice so they are aware on what dates they are moving placements and to which deparment they are moving to.
There is a lot of support that is given by the employer, which ranges from oppertunities to develop and learn more to time out for appoinments where requried. Some of the events that they have done, include a mental health awareness course and a driving awareness coruse that have been offered/mandated by the company.
There is a lot of support provided when working to the qualifications, in departments they will allow you time to do job writeups or collage work when requried. As well as this the skill coaches provided a lot of help in checking that the write ups are written well and that criteria is in place where applicable.
I think that the qualification helps me to perform better in my job role as it means that I will be able to understand more, which makes work easier if you are able to understand the what and why of tasks. As well as this we do a collage unit in communciation which is a vary useful skill to have in a workplace.
There is a range of extra-curricular activities such as the mediation or walking clubs that run on some lunch times. There is also a range of STEM events and you are also trained as a STEM ambassador. These events range from carees events in schools to running a stall at the Great Yorksire Show.
Yes
I would reccomend the company as it is a good company to work for that looks after its employees and provides a large scope for development and advancement. As well as this there are good support schemes, such as the pension scheme and the share shcheme. These provided good opertunities for investment in your own future.
When applying to BAE Systems I would suggest that you ensure you know what the company does and what the different branches are, and that you have additional extra-curricular activities that show a range of different skills. Also I would suggest that you can prove you work well with a team whcih doesn't just entail sharing ideas and taking charge but possibly taking a step back and listening.
