Currently I am at Glasgow Clyde college full time. I am currently studying a HNC system engineering and a SVQ level 2. Once the year has been completed I will then move on to working in the company gaining skills and knowledge that will be need to complete the job as well as gaining a HND and SVQ level 3 along the way.
While I have been at college I have been able to develop some of the existing skills that I have such as team working, problem solving and communication. I have also been able to learn new skills such as wielding and pipe fitting as well as some theory from the HNC course that is being complete.
I enjoy the program very much at the moment as I am interested in learning the knew skills that will be required to complete the job to the best of my ability. I also have fun while in the practical classes as I find it very interesting being able to complete tasks such as welding and wiring.
The programme is structured very well as it helps break the week up so that it is not the same things being completed constantly. The programme is organised in a good manner as the head lecturers make sure that everyone knows where they have to be at everytime during the week.
The support that we receive from our employer is really good. They make sure that we have all settled in properly and that we are receiving the correct guidance and help during our time at college. Whenever we have a question they answer back really quickly and are constantly asking questions to make sure that we are all happy.
The training provider at Glasgow Clyde college gives us great support as they are always checking in with everyone to ensure that while in classes the correct support is being provided as well as ensuring that everyone is coping with the course. The training provider is also always there to answer any questions that are asked.
I feel that the qualifications that we will gain through our training will help tremendously with our role as it gives us a great understanding of all types of engineering that occur in industry such as ours. Although we currently do practical classes that we will not be doing once we are in the company it gives us a good understanding of the job that our peers will be completing.
Our employer took us away for a week in October to fort William to help us gain team working skills and get to know everyone that we would be working with better. This was a great experience as it help everyone gain a experience together and help everyone know each other more than colleagues.

I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend as I feel like it is one of the best company’s to have an apprenticeship with. I feel like the company put a lot of effort in to helping us get the right qualifications and knowledge to help us be the best we can be at our job.
I would recommend that they enjoy engineering and that they come into the job with an open mind to develop skills and gain experience as well as learning knew skills. I would also say that they should have an understanding of the company and engineering so that they know what sort of job they are getting into.
