I lead 2 teams claims handler dealing with personal injury claims as a result of Road Traffic Accidents. One team profiles and uses designed strategies for solicitors and the other team deals with liability disputed claims
Different ways to coach individual team members, setting Smart Goals, how to view reports, management of team expectations and also becoming more confident in my own self and my own abilities as a person and as a manager. I have also learnt to manage my own time more effectively and have also learnt to say No in order that I can do my own work
I have enjoyed learning about myself and using different tactics in order that I can not only manage myself but also others more effectively. It was learning about the skills I already had and actually enhancing them and/or putting a name to them. It was the actual learning and the challenges I face in my day to day role
It was well organised and structured and I was able to follow through on what I was learning about leadership and management with that of the teams I am managing. I was able to apply the knowledge and skills learnt to my project and also to other work I was asked to do as I was asked to provide work processes for another team of people with limited knowledge and experience
Whilst my employers encouraged me I had minimal support from my first Unit Leader but since the start of the course I have had 2 further Unit Leaders who have positively encouraged me in completion of the course and also have provided me with feedback on same. They have also given me the opportunity to put my new skills and knowledge into practice at work
I have received positive encouragement and felt that I could either telephone or e-mail my course manager if I had any issues/concerns regarding the course. The content of the course itself was broken down into theory and practical which could be applied to my role and I could use when attending meetings.
It has given me the skills and knowledge in not only how I can manage my own work but also that of my teams. It is being able to provide MI in understandable format not only to my manager but also to team members so that they can understand same in an easily read format and be able to understand the current work position and how this will be managed going forward
There are numerous social activities at work I can get involved in should I wish to do so. As there a site quizzes and events that are held off site in order that we can meet with people from other areas
Yes
The friendliness of the workplace along with support provided not only by other Units but also other departments such as HR. As part of my project I have come into contact with other leaders from other Units who have provided me with information and also advice on how I can manage and present the work to my manager
To take a leap of faith as you are not confined to one Unit/department as there are a wide variety of areas that you are able to work in or gain experience by taking the time to learn about these roles. It is also the training and support provided by the RSA Group
