  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of checking and updating bank accounts on the EBanking system and processing payments and receipts on SAP. I process bank postings and check and clear down vendors for different payments. I can check different payment types and investigate further the receiving accounts and ensure the double entry is correct for these.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed skills on Microsoft excel - increasing my knowledge for things such as pivot tables. I have also been introduced to systems used daily within the workplace such as EBanking and SAP. I am able to now recognise how these work and use each one for my own specific needs in my day to day job.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I quite enjoy my programme as I am able to work independently and constantly build on my knowledge and skills, looking for ways to improve. My colleagues are very helpful and supportive which impacts this hugely as I feel comfortable in the job I am doing and confident in asking questions and receiving the help I may need. I do not know of anyone doing the same role as me alongside studying which I wish I did as there is nobody around me in a similar position. don't really have anyone I can discuss studying with in terms of how they might find it which I think may help me more in both my day to day job and my AAT studies.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe my programme is well organised however there has been a lack of communication with myself, my employer and Kaplan. I have not felt I understand my course to the extent I should from Kaplan and I have been quite reliant on google to find out information. Despite this, I do feel supported in my course if I do have issues with my studying in regards to the content (if I have a query about a question I am able to email Kaplan and receive help). The think the communication has been lacked linking to my job role and how this will plan out over the whole length of my apprenticeship -rather than just now and how my studies will tie in to my daily job near the end.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel extremely supported by my employer. I am always able to ask for help or support where needed and my team leader is extremely helpful -she checks up on how I am finding my work alongside studying regularly. I believe RSA is an extremely good employer as I feel comfortable and happy in the workplace.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have found when studying for my qualification I have not received much support. It took several months for my training coach to be assigned to me therefore I was quite unsure my first point of contact in regards to queries. I feel my studies have been extremely independent and I still do not have 100% confidence in that I have all the knowledge relating to how my qualification is broken down. Since starting in September, I have not have not had much communication with my training provider and it seemed to be a long start relating to starting my studies. My team leader has also found the communication and support from Kaplan has not been the best.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have found in some aspects of my studying, I am able to reflect on my role. My day to day job consists of some of the same material as in my qualification therefore this makes both my job and my learning slightly easier. Doing these processes in my role allows me to understand and visualise it better when completing it in my studies.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Occasionally, there are quiz nights and nights out such as around Christmas that are encouraged by my employer. I have taken part in a treasure hunt with my team and I am aware of sports day coming up in the Summer which takes place every year in RSA. There is also an emphasis on volunteering within my work and this is really encouraged by RSA.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSA Insurance Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think my workplace is a friendly environment and is very organised in terms of job roles and points of contact. Everybody is extremely helpful and I feel I have been introduced to many opportunities I may not have had if I did not work for RSA. I feel as though I am cared about individually rather than being seen as just another employee.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Insurance Ltd?
  • I would say ask as many questions as possible when starting in RSA. It is such a big company therefore there are so many different things to learn continuously and speaking to people is a really beneficial way to do this. I would also suggest investing your time in recognising the resources and help available to you and your work.
