I have a varied role sometimes working as a housekeeper cleaning rooms and other days in the head housekeeper role, where I supervise the rest of the team. When cleaning rooms I am given a list, some rooms to be prepared for incoming guests, others to be cleaned for guests staying multiple nights. As head housekeeper I prepare the lists for the rest of the team and also check that the rooms are prepared to standard.
I am learning new things all the time, for example in the business legislation module I have learnt about all the laws that businesses must adhere to, this makes me think very much more about where these are relevant in my day to day work. I am enjoying the different modules.
I feel as if it can only get more interesting as I work my way through the modules. I am looking forward to learning new things and building knowledge I already have, then putting that into practise in my day to day work. I think that the activities are good and also the appointments with my regional trainer.
I think it has taken me a little while to get in the flow of the programme. This is down to the fact it has been a long time since I have undertook any formal training. I like how the subject matter is broken down into easy to digest modules.
I haven't really called upon my employer for any help or guidance with my training as yet, I do think that when I need to they will be willing to help. My hotel manager does ask me how my meetings with my trainer are going. I know that if I need help I can get it.
I like that when I have meetings with my trainer that we go over work covered in the modules before my knowledge is tested. I know that if I need help with anything I can send a message and he will be able to help. I think that the lifetime website has lots of information and is easy to navigate.
I feel that the knowledge I will gain from this apprenticeship will make me think more about why and how we do things day to day. I will have a more in-depth understanding in a broad range of areas relating to my role. I will be able to put my new knowledge into practise through all my daily responsibilities.
I am a representative for Premier Inn at the Whitbread regional and national forums. We meet biannually to discuss what's going on in the business and how we can help improve areas of working etc. I also was recently invited to the first ever Pan Whitbread forum which brought together reps from hotels, restaurants and support centre.
Yes
I do think that Whitbread is a very good company to work for, from its comprehensive training programmes to great rates of pay, rewards and benefits. I feel like I have really found my feet with Whitbread, I really enjoy my job and I have the opportunity to progress and develop new skills.
I would say that it important to be reliable, enthusiastic and hard working. Be prepare to learn more skills in the industry. We have a really good culture. There is plenty of opportunity for progression in the company. You will learn various different departments and a lot about the hospitality industry as a whole.
