My role involves pricing road surfacing tenders. Day-to-day I am liaising with customers and sub-contractors to provide the quote for the tender.
I have learnt about road surfacing and the contracting business. Part of the apprenticeship program at Tarmac involves us all apprentices to learn core skills and present their learns at the end of their program to higher ups in the company, I am half way through this.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme so far. This is mainly due to the team that I work within, they have been extremely supportive and have helped me to learn my role and my way in the company.
My programme has been well structured by my line manager and commercial manager. They have spent time in helping to develop my studying and training.
I receive lots of support for my employers, especially within my team. They have supplied me with a mentor who has provided me with support and guidance.
I am in my first year of my degree and am seeing how my course will be structured for the following three years.
Currently my training is not relevant to my current role but it has enabled me to get to know some of my other work colleagues, which I would not normally communicate with, as the have previously done this course and are assisting me.
There are many extra-curricular activities that Tarmac provides for their employees. From just interoffice experiences to company wide. Tarmac also has a voluntary initiative which stipulates that each employee has to complete a certain amount of volunteering hours each year.
Yes
They are a good company to work for that value skill and ability and believe in a diverse workforce. They allow you to explore your abilities and help you to improve.
The HR department have made the whole process of applying for and interviewing for roles at Tarmac a simply and enjoyable experience. One thing I would have liked to been told about was the amount of internal course that are mandatory to attend.
