I am given the same roles as an assistant underwriter, my day to day tasks involve uploading data onto the systems, Meeting brokers occasionally and working towards getting my own caseload.
Every existing skill I have has been developed immensely, this apprenticeship has really helped with my confidence, communication and organisation. I also feel that I have learned many new skills while doing this job and his has been encouraged by m colleagues.
I really enjoy the programme, I think that there is a good setup to make sure that everyone feels supported in both day to day work and the training, everyone is very understanding and always goes above and beyond.
I think there is a really good structure, we have frequent calls with a talent coach who is always up to date with our development and keeps us on track.
My employer is very supportive and encouraging, they are always praising my development and trying to get me involved in new situations for my own networking purposes. I feel very supported within this organisation.
We have calls every 6 weeks with the same talent coach that knows all about out progress, they are very patient and it is good to have someone to keep you on track and is easily contactable if you should need to ask any questions about the [programme there is always someone to go to, the talent coaches have lots of experience and are really beneficial to have.
Yes, I don't feel like all of the information is relevant in my day to day job however it is good to gain a greater understanding of insurance and where underwriting fits into the bigger picture, having said this I do personally think it would be more effective to have more relevant training and things I will use day to day as I don't use anything I learn so it could be more time effective if I didn't study other things too.
Yes, in RSA they make sure that you feel very included there are always events to get involved in or social events after work. even since I started out working in insurance I have always been invited to professional events. RSA have been very encouraging when it comes to networking.
Yes
RSA is such a great environment to work in, everyone has been so friendly and supportive, the teams you work with are all so knowledgeable so that is really great for personal development. I have already recommended RSA to two friends due to the environment and support offered, there are also great training opportunities.
Be proactive, find out more about the job role and make sure that you not only fit the stated requirements in the advertisement but that the job will fit with you well too. Make sure to research the company and attend assessment days as they are a good way to develop your interview technique!
