I work as a lone worker in a busy Funeral home Branch. I deal with day to day enquiries which can range from walk-in, pre-arranged appointments either in branch or at someone's home or via online enquiry. I deal with all aspect of Funeral arrangements and liase with local churches and crematoriums and also hospitals and nursing homes. I also help families with funeral plans and take care of all invoicing is to do with branch and all banking.
Whilst working with Co-op I have learnt numerous new skills and had to learn what products we have and how best describe them to families when they need them to help guide them through the process
I do enjoy the apprenticeship scheme as I have a great help in Vicky Hodge who comes to my workplace to spend time and help me but will also be at the end of phone too which is great help to me.
the program goes at my pace and also a lot of onsite observations can help me. so rather than writing loads of stuff Vicky can come to the work place and watch me and see how I interact with families.
I don't have as much support as I would like but this is down to staff shortages. My boss is happy to let me get on with apprenticeship work in work time. I would like to do more practical things such as go out on funeral but as I am lone worker this will mean closing branch which we can't do.
I have fair bit of support and know I can always email or phone if I'm concerned.
I don't think the qualification helps me to perform better within my job but I do think it makes you think about how much information you are learning
