Chemical analysis of limestone, quicklime and hydrated lime. Trace element analysis using atomic absorption and physical testing such as moisture, CaCO3, expansion, grits. I spend the morning typically preparing sample and carry out testing and inputting results in the afternoon.
I have learnt new skills in practical chemistry, good lab practices, team work, time management.
I enjoy the work in the lab as its interesting and the apprenticeship is good as you earn a salary while you learn and achieve a qualification.
my apprenticeship is organised as I know what I'm going to be doing each week and my progress in task competency is tracked. However it took some work to find a college to start the level 4 course.
I am well supported and have confidence in the support they provide.
I get time in work to do college work and write assignments and get help if I need it.
Not all areas of the qualification which I study at college are relevant to work however I also do an NVQ in laboratory science in industry which is based on tasks I carry out at work.
There are social activities and a social club.
Yes
Tarmac is a top employer for benefits and I get a competitive salary.
Take the opportunities you get!
