The Funeral Arranger role means that I am responsible for the day to day running of the funeral home. This includes being receptionist, client liaison, responsibility for booking funerals with crematoriums, churches and ministers. I also complete funeral plans for clients wanting to pre purchase their funeral.
I have learnt about rules and regulations for cremations, burials and cemeteries.
I have really enjoyed the whole learning experience. At first I was very reticent about signing up as I thought that being over 50 years old I was too old. This was needless worry as the whole experience was enjoyable and helped expand my knowledge a great deal.
The initial sign up left me with more questions than answers, but the one to one support was excellent and the work books are easy to follow.
My employer arranged the whole apprenticeship and gave me time during the working day to complete it.
I had regular monthly contact on a one to one basis with a dedicated coordinator, I also had contact by e-mail and telephone if required.
The extra knowledge gained has proven invaluable to my job role
