I am an EL/PL claims handler and my role involves dealing with a portfolio of claims from start to finish. My job involves a large amount of legal knowledge and negotiation skills along with customer skills. I have a caseload of approximately 200 cases which I currently oversee and take responsibility for.
Yes, I have learned new skills coming from a primarily motor and disease claim background. I have had to learn EL/PL from scratch including learning all about the various case laws and statutes as well developing existing skills such as services a variety of stakeholders needs and providing the relevant feedback to them.
I enjoy my programme immensely. It is great to develop my skills and knowledge base along with meeting new people and achieving new areas of expertise. I am looking forward to exploring other areas of knowledge which I have not yet been exposed to in the future. Learning sure is fun.
My programme has a great deal of organisation and structure with a user friendly web page to record all of my learning and achievements. I also have a great tutor who arranges monthly meeting on top of occasional group workshops which enables me to meet and discuss things with other apprentices.
My employer has been fantastic, they have been great in providing me with my allocated time for doing my study, although I haven't actually had any workload taken off me so I'm literally drowning in work! But its all good fun and I'm sure the extra work will make me a better person.
My training provider has been very supportive, I also have a great tutor who arranges monthly meeting on top of occasional group workshops which enables me to meet and discuss things with other apprentices. My tutor is also available should I just need to discuss anything or have any particular queries.
Well this is a difficult one to answer because I haven't actually achieved my qualification yet but I imagine that once it is achieved I will have a greater range of knowledge which will assist me in my day to day duties and provide me with extra confidence in my role. I am sure that my employer will be wanting to give me a pay rise also.
Yes, I volunteer for charity events such as painting canals and picking up rubbish. I also socialise with my work colleagues which involves drinking in a variety of different establishments. Unfortunately I have retired from many of my sporting endeavours due to age, lack of fitness and desire but I believe that these are available.
Yes
I would recommend RSA to a friend as it's a great place to work, has a great social side and work related perks such as working in the city centre and flexitime. Plus I will also get a financial reward if they mention my name in the application form and stay here for 6 months which is good.
I would advise them to spell check their application forms and wear something smart for the interview, maybe an un-creased shirt and a nice tie, nothing too colourful though, need to maintain an air of professionalism. Also to wear a nice smelling aftershave, nothing too overbearing like Opium. And to smile at the interviewer in a nice way.
