Warehouse Operative Apprentice Review

Moving products into the racking, picking out of the P&D section to put products into goods out locations, ready to be loaded onto a HGV. Collecting hazardous and flammable material needed by production departments on site to make our products. Unloading HGVs and loading HGVs. Tramming products to various different departments on site.

The biggest skill i have acquired is learning to drive a forklift and getting my license. I have also learnt how to lift heavy products (25kg bags) properly without injuring myself. I also went to the weighbridge and learnt a bit about how to book tankers onto our system, how to weigh them, how to book in deliveries and HGVs that have come to collect products for our customers.

I enjoy the programme a great deal, so far there is not anything bad I can say about the course that I am on. The relationship between my tutor at Kirklees college and my manager at Solenis is a good one and this allows comunication between them to occur seemlessly, making the apprenticeship easier for me as i am kept in the loop and dont encounter any surprises.

As I said previously, the programme I'm on is very well structured due to the communication between my tutor at college and my manager at Solenis. The programme is very well structured as I have a mentor as well as a manager at Solenis, this allows me to be contantly learning and perfecting skills needed for the job role.

I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have an assessor who checks on me and helps me to undertsand coursework when im using the 20% off the job training. My mentor is always around if i every struggle with any task i need to complete. Furthermore, I have an apprentice coordinator at Solenis who I can talk to if I have a problem in the workplace and dont feel comfortable to speaking to others.

I receive quite a lot of support from my training provider. My tutor, Alex, is very helpful and very experienced in the line of work my apprenticeship involves. I have is number and Email address if i need to contact him to ask any questions which relates to my apprenticeship.

The qualification helps me perform better in my role as it gives me a very good idea of how a warehouse works and how products make their way to the warehouse, including types of trasnport available to move our products and the supplie we need to and from abroad countries.

There is a sports and social club which runs site wide with members from every department on site, they offer activities such as theatre shows and 5 a side football games. Their is also an apprenticeship networking programme where all the apprentices on site meet up for dinner and to do activities such as team building activities.

I would recommend Solenis to a friend, and I already have recommended Solenis' apprenticeship programmes to multiple friends and family members. The opportunities that the company offer are incredible, to be able to work for a globally recognised company is great. You can start an apprenticeship in one department, and once completed, you can move on to another department and begin to learn that role.

I would tell others applying for Solenis to attend every site tour, open day, and event which Solenis put on so you get a good idea about how the company works. I would also suggest research the company, find out what products we produce on site, the background of the company (what we specialise in, what other names we have been called). Study chemical symbols so you know what effects a product could have it was stored incorrectly.
