  • I am a Technical Solutions Specialist working in the Software Support Team. I am working on the following projects - Replistor, STARR0, STARR1A and Standards. I install software, applications, configs and patches.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have attended many courses which help me to carry out all stages of a project. I have taken part in a Project Management course. I am attending an external UNIX Fundamentals course next month for 1 week. I have learnt lots of UNIX and AIX skills with on the job training.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have attended many courses which help me to carry out all stages of a project. I have taken part in a Project Management course. I am attending an external UNIX Fundamentals course next month for 1 week. I have learnt lots of UNIX and AIX skills with on the job training.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by IBM?
  • I enjoy work as it is varied and I am given the opportunity to change roles if I get bored or feel I am not being stretched. The team are excellent and very helpful. The apprenticeship has been different to what I expected although I have been pleasantly surprised.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the company put a lot of time and effort into on boarding apprentices. They see us as the future of their company. The IBM apprenticeship scheme is definitely very well recognised externally as we have won national apprenticeship of the year.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have a mentor who helps me and ensures that I have lots of work. I receive training from all members of my team depending on the project that I am working on. My manager holds weekly meetings with me to ensure that I am happy and feel supported.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager holds meeting with me every couple of months. There is a connecting women community who help to make sure that women are supported in the company. They do not help me with just work issues but also with any other problems that I may have outside of work.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I have a very good salary which ensures that i have lots of money to spend on my social life. I live at home and very close to work so I do not need much money for living and travel costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of company events where we receive talks from executives high up in the company. These events are generally day and evening events and are excellent for networking. They are often held in London. There are many sports teams that you can join in IBM.

  • 9. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have had a great time as an apprentice at IBM with great pay.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • Take your time when completing the application form and be yourself at the interview. Make sure that you work hard on the presentation that you are required to present at the assessment centre.
