on a day to day basis I will spend 4 days a week working on my practical competence such as milling and turning. the other day in the week will be in the class room working on knowledge and understanding. For example health and safety is a six week course in the classroom once a week.
I have learnt to work to fine tolerances on a range of materials such as mild steel, aluminium and brass. I have learnt how to use basic hand tools and how to mark out correctly and accurately. I have improved my leadership and teamworking skills as well as my patience when working.
I really enjoy my programme as everyday I feel like I am contributing to my career and future life. I enjoy my programme more than if I had gone to college due to the amount of practical and hands on experience I can get. the people and staff /trainers are all kind and willing to answer any questions I have.
my programme is well organised and I have a structure to my programme. I will have a 6-8 week course followed by a short break in the form of an engineering challenge. our practical and knowledge courses interlink and end around the same time to start a new topic after the challenge
I receive support from my employer. I get walked through on how to complete my knowledge or exams. I can receive help if I need it and will be given any extra resources if I ask for them. the trainers support us for any emotional/ wellbeing problems and can support us for anything we need.
my training provider delivers all of the content for my qualifications and ensures I am adequately prepared for my exams. I also receive support from my provider for uploading evidence and ensuring it is verified for my qualification. when filling out knowledge questions they will answer any question I have.
my qualification will help me in my role as it will ensure I know what to do when I encounter challenges and know how to competently perform my job in the workplace. my qualification also aids my personal development to improve my teamwork and interpersonal skills. other skills such as timekeeping and organisation are also improved.
there are extra curricula's such as helping out at open evenings and open events around the workplace. there we would speak to younger students that are looking to participate in the apprenticeship. I would speak about my role and what I do on a day to day basis to inform them about applying .
Yes
I would recommend BAE to a friend as I believe they provide an excellent apprenticeship with both a good practical and academic side to the course. there are excellent facilities as well as many classrooms to learn theory in. there are also many placements available within the workplace for learning later on in the apprenticeship.
I would advise them to apply and be open to the company as well as show enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. a drive to improve both the quality of work and personal skills is needed as well as not worrying about the aptitude testing as it is designed to be hard.
