  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Ona day to day basis i work with hardware ansd networking. Quite alot of infrastrcutre is down to me due to being an apprentice, settings things up for my team and working behind the scenes. Ive recenlty started doing networking like switch setup myself, though i spent alot of my time moving equipment about.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Ive learnt alot about task managemnt, learning how to priotiise. I use virtual task boards and diaries to keep log og my work. I learnt how to manage myself an dkeep myself busy to the benefit of my team. ive learnt basic juniper networking and how to present myself in a professional manner.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Its really good, i like knowing my work has a real impact on important work, such as the ships we produce. Its really cool knowing what im a part of. I find myself entertained everyday and happy yot get out of bed for work. My team is great and i made great friends

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Its alright. There has definatly been admin issues which meant a late start and not mcuh info. The teams are quite good at commmunicating and working amongst each other. I like the plan of my program and knowing what im going to be doing next acadmeically and professioanlly. All in all, quite good.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is alot. There is many handbooks of advice and tellign me where to find support. There is everyone from mental health helpers to provate healthcare. Colleuege atre acaring and there to help. Everyone is happy to teach and support. ALso lotsd of training courses are provider for us employees.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Average again. There is some level of support. the teachwers are decent at replying to the emails we send but again some do not. Some teachers have below par feedback on assignemnts which makes it hard to improve but again some are great. Itsd a mioxed bag, it depend son the teacher and who you ask.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Alot of what i learn from them is software and theory based. The networking unit really helped give me a base understanding of my work but all the coding is useless. There isnt much taught that helped me with my ahrdware setup and using wiring diagrams etc. It needs ot be more inclusive of subjects.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. There is clubs for everyone. There is discoutn gym and tai chi at lunch. tghere is a football club im apart of it. There is BSCS or somethinglike that,w hich does bi annual socials for the whole company. Teams amongst themselves also make socials for the team to attend.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it has been a good start to my career. Im earning good mone for my age and getting an education! I actually enjoy my work and can see a fututre which is really important when finding a new career. I fi love BAE i dont know why my mates would not


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Have alot of info about BAE for you interview. Make sure to be intgerested in the work they do and show it with what you know at the interview. Do the classic dress welll and be confident, but have a human side and relatre to your boss, theyre great people.
