Currently I am a 1st year apprentice, therefore I am receiving training at college working towards the relevant qualifications to allow me to work on site later in my apprenticeship, my day consists of 9-5 college completing numerous level 2 and level 3 units, this consists of practical work and theory work.
During my time at college I have learnt many different skills such as wiring up electrical bays, completing ladder logic for a PLC device, various hand fitting skills, being able to understand mechanical engineering principles and apply them to different assignments set and much more. Furthermore I have also developed many skills I previously had some experience in such as mathematics skills, digital skills and the ability to work well in a team.
I am really enjoying my program, I look forward to going everyday as the work is challenging keeping me motivated to improve daily, I work alongside like minded individuals who want to work to a high standard like myself which makes the programme even more enjoyable, and I look forward to the future in this company.
The programme is well structured, it dictates to us what units we just complete and when they need completing by which allows us to take a proactive stance and complete work ahead of time should we wish too. Also I feel the programme is very well planned out for us when we leave college and have already been made aware of what to expect when we go on site which is very good.
We receive a lot of support from our employer and we know they are always there if we need to ask any questions, we receive frequent progress reviews making us aware of how we are doing and what is expected of us. We receive frequent company updates Via email and yammer, which allows us to reach different departments in the company easily.
Our training provider consists of 3 assessors all of which help us greatly , they provide easy to understand training and present it in a very good way. They are always on hand to help with anything we may be struggling with going above and beyond to ensure we fully understand something, this makes me confident that I am going to understand everything taught to me.
The qualifications we are provided with are all relevant to what we will be doing in our role as wind turbine technicians and are always reminded of the fact that we will be able to apply this skill to our future work , as everything is taught to us very well it makes me confident I will perform well in my job role.
We are encouraged to get involved in many extra curricular activities for example a number of us apprentices took part in 6 a side football after college which our company Siemens Gamesa sponsored and got us football kits to be able to play in the league. We named our team siemens Gamesa.

Applying for this apprenticeship, as I expected, is the best decision I ever made it has allowed me to get involved with a huge company who are brilliant to work for, so far I have learned a huge range of skills, gained huge amounts of confidence and met lots of new people. I am constantly exited about what is to come next and feel very grateful to be involved with the company.
When applying for this role be honest and be yourself, ensure that you know a lot of information about the company and it’s mission statements, make sure you work well in a team and can also work well individually. Make sure you are hard working, motivated and willing to put 100% into everything you do.
