My role includes finding, evaluating and implementing improvements that could be useful across our team. This could be for example, implementing a new cancellation policy starting from a trial to see if successful. As well as this, I have the responsibility to track our team’s progress on current goals and identify areas as to where we could improve.
I have learnt to present confidentially whilst on my apprenticeship. I have also learnt to improve my communication skills and I am able to work in a team successfully with a positive impact through a balanced level of independent work and individually work contributing to the project we are working on.
I enjoy my programme as it is interesting to understand the influence BT has on the outside world, the changes it makes and how this impacts the many stakeholders of the company. I find the university course challenge but I am persistent with it and I hope this will be enough to achieve the grades I aspire to achieve.
The apprenticeship programme is mainly structured well and we always receive our university instructions on time and when expected. We are set individual work alongside revision for the subjects we study and this is undertaken on dedicated days away from the desk that we get as part of our apprenticeship.
I receive a good level of support from my company with 20% of my time going towards studying for my university degree. I am also entitled to a level of support from my NVQ tutor who comes into our office to visit us occasionally to answer questions and check up on our progress.
We receive a good level of support from the training provider however it could be improved upon. The subject is entirely new and so a fresh approach to the subject would be appreciated in certain areas rather than have specified revision sessions, however overall I am satisfied with the level of support.
My role in some ways is linked to the degree as it brings back to basics the aim of a telecommunications provider. It teaches us the complexities attached with a phone call, how it is received and how it is picked up. Cyber security is also taught which is an ongoing issue in our ever-expanding digital society.
We can undertake 3 volunteering days per year out of our contract which allows for any aspirations we have to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We also have the opportunity to attend networking events as long as they are associated with our role and they provided a benefit to our learning journey.

BT is an exciting, ever-developing tech based company. It is so current and the possibilities are endless, the recent expansion into the sport industry as an example of this. BT offers a successfully proven apprenticeship programme and so I would have no doubt in recommending further apprenticeship programmes in the future.
I would say be confident in yourself, your opinions and your abilities to succeed. Don’t doubt yourself. It is vital to research the company beforehand and know the company’s main aim and how they set out to achieve this. If you think you have made a mistake, don’t worry, be persistent and the effort will pay off.
