My jobs include completing daily checks on aircraft to much more advanced engineering such as changing engines and completing skin repairs. As part of my apprenticeship I get to travel to different parts of the company and experience difference types of maintenance as well, such as service checks at Heathrow to heavy maintence at BAMC.
I have greatly improved my hand skills using basic and advanced machinery and tools. I have also gained lots of skill in metal work and the fabrication of certain components such as pipes. My skills have mainly increased around my competency when removing and fitting components which I now do with ease
I have really enjoyed my program when in the practical stages. In the hangars and workshops I found I really enjoyed myself and time would fly by as I enjoyed the work. However there is a theory side of the apprenticeship which I didn't enjoy as there was huge amounts of pressure.
As I said before there is a theory side of the apprenticeship which I didn't enjoy, this is also partly because I found the training provider to be very very disorganised and didn't enjoy my time there. While at the hangars however I found it was very organised.
My employer gives me all the support I need when completing exams. There is 1 left to do however and i am struggling to get on to a course and there now seems the be reluctance to help as it is just me to do it and no one else
The support has been satisfactory. I think more support would have been better as alot of stuff took a long time for me to understand but I did eventually manage to understand what was required with the given support and help of some of my friends. So some more support would have helped
I think the training I went through has greatly helped me in my role. The modules covered at resorce group has given me a very good understanding of aircraft and aircraft abriviations/jargon. In my role this means I understand the jobs I am doing and their significance to the aircraft
There are no extra curricula activities I have been made aware of that are currently taking place at ba that to my knowledge I can participate in. Occasionally though ba will send apprentices away to work which gives me the opportunity to see other countries for free while working there
Yes
The opportunitys at ba are huge and they provide a great job opportunities. They look after apprentices and provide us with all the necessary equipment to enable us to work well with a shift of people to carry out maintence activities. You also are given opportunities to see the world.
I would advise to have a bit of experience in maintenance or engineering already because you need to have a basic understanding of tools and aircraft to pass the interview and also so you can fully understand what is being said during the training that is carried out at resorce group
