Working alongside experienced electricians to fix machine that run a process, it is important that these machines and building are running constantly so this is important. There are also maintenance tasks to complete daily to prevent breakdowns, but if a break down does occur then we would be called out to fix it.
Since starting 4 years ago I feel that I have learnt a lot, ranging from the site and how it runs to the important electrical information to keep me safe, and others around me, when working. Alongside this there have been many occasions that I have been able to improve other skills such as teamwork and leadership through events such and outward bound and the apprentice innovation challenge.
I enjoy my job role thoroughly, there is not a day that I dread coming to work, all of the people that I work with are kind in offering me advice daily to help me better myself. Also the company treats you with a lot of respect and you are not outcast as less than anyone else.
In my opinion the structure of the programme is very good, it is well designed to make sure that you are constantly learning and pushing boundaries to better yourself. On site we are able to rotate every three months to gain a better understanding of the whole site and get to know the parts we are more suited to.
We receive a large amount of support form many different people in many different areas, this ranging from fellow electricians to managers. If we ever have any questions I would feel very comfortable asking anyone around me, this is important when it comes to improving, so over we are very supported.
I am in college with my training provider one day a week, this means that we see them weekly for help with assignments and completing engineering tasks. if we ever have and questions about work we have been given the tutors are happy to reply to emails, also they are happy to set up extra lessons in half term if extra help is needed.
I feel that the training provider is helping me extend my knowledge even further than I would on site as there can be many technical questions that I have that the tutors will know the answer to in an understandable way. They also inform you of all of the helth and safety features that you have to be weary of when working.
There are many different types of activities to get involved in, for example in our first year we are sent on outward bound where we are in the lake district for a week with BAE apprentices from across the UK, we are given different tasks to complete and there are many activities such as canoeing, gauge walking, raft building and hiking.
Yes
Because of how well they treat you when you start and how much you can learn whilst being paid at the same time, also because of the size of the company it is reassuring to know that there are a large range of job prospects if you feel that you want to move up the ladder in the company.
Focus on the tests that are during the application to the process, do not over think them and make sure you are on your own in a quiet room. Also when you get to the interview be yourself and don't panic, you are there to see if you want the apprenticeship as much as they are looking at you.
