  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Ensure all of the necessary deliverables for a project are completed and handed over on time and on budget for he member to enjoy. This includes reviewing and mapping the customer journey, producing requirements and several governance docs, testing and approving processes and products prior to release, and fixing website bugs which hinder the customer journey

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • More so around project and change management which has been really useful in my new role. It also provided me with a fundamentals certificate. However, the silo'd nature of the company can make it difficult to change company culture and work collaboratively. It would have been helpful if more of the courses were applicable to digital transformation

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed some of the training and gaining additional qualifications. I think there could be some improvement in the delivery of the training, the scheduling which wasn't always consistent. It would have been better if we could have done the project management over a longer period or better planned as some areas were glossed over or rushed

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme could have been structured better as there were several modules which ran after assignments which would have been far more beneficially if it had been planned with the assignments and other modules in mind. The additional support which was supposed to be available online was not available to me and I wasn't able to access academic papers as I didn't have an academic email

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • They were supportive when necessary e.g. changing over our learning support managers when complaints were made. They also allowed me to take time off to complete assignments and complete other apprenticeship work. However, they were more disorganised when trying to find a project I could manage and not all the team I was assigned were supportive

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot of the online materials were not accessible to me as it stated I either didn't have authority or there was nothing uploaded. My learning reviewer was extremely helpful and supportive and helped me significantly along the was. With respect to the courses, while some of the trainers sent were helpful not all seemed comfortable with delivering the training when questions were asked

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There was definitely an improvement in my project and change management skills and I can now put these into practice on a daily basis as Scrum and Agile are integral parts of my role. However, in some instances there was little difference as I wasn't in a position to apply my learnings. Some of the courses involved tasked which were not within my remit and difficult to fulfil, which was quite demotivating.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As I live some distance away, I am not in a position to partake in may activities which are run outside of work ours, however many of the ones in which I do participate are not appropriate situations to apply any of these learning. I have attended a few professional networking events and felt I was equipped with the tools to interact and build relationship but this is the extent of it

  • 9a. Would you recommend Saga plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • From a professional development perspective, it is great that Saga is willing to invest in and develop their staff without the additional financial burden it might apply to the learner. Saga has invested in a number of learning tools in addition to apprenticeships and these have come in really handy when trying to learn more about roles and bridging my knowledge gaps

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Saga plc?
  • - Ensure you manage you time well and prepare for the workload that accompanies this qualification - Don't go into the course assuming you know everything, there is always room for growth - Try to find situations in you day-to-day life which could benefit from the training so you can regular apply your learnings
